RF Switch Systems

An RF switch system (or switch matrix) is an automated routing tool that allows a single test instrument to connect to multiple devices—or multiple ports on the same device—without manual cable swapping. It essentially acts as a high-frequency traffic controller for signal paths.

Why Choose an RF Switch System?

Elimination of Manual Errors: By automating the connection process, you remove the risk of human error in cable placement and the physical wear and tear on sensitive, expensive RF connectors.
Massive Increase in Throughput: These systems allow for high-speed multi-port testing on production lines, as a single command can reroute signals in milliseconds compared to minutes for manual intervention.
Multi-Port Expansion: They expand the capability of standard 2-port or 4-port Network Analysers and Signal Generators, allowing them to test complex multi-antenna systems or phased arrays simultaneously.
Remote and Automated Testing: RF switches can be controlled via PC (USB, LAN, or GPIB), making them an essential component of fully automated test environments (ATE) where testing runs 24/7.

Core Applications

Mobile Handset Production: Simultaneously testing the multiple antennas and frequency bands (LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi) on a smartphone during the final assembly and quality check.
Phased Array Radar Testing: Routing signals through the hundreds of individual elements in an active electronically scanned array (AESA) to verify phase and amplitude consistency.
Component Life-Cycle Testing: Automatically cycling signals through dozens of RF filters or amplifiers over long periods to monitor performance degradation under stress.
Satellite Communication Systems: Managing complex signal routing between ground station transceivers and multiple antennas to maintain continuous link stability during testing.
