Wideband Injection Transformers

A Wideband Injection Transformer is a specialized high-frequency component used to safely inject a test signal into a control loop without breaking the loop or affecting its DC operating point. It provides galvanic isolation between the test equipment (like a Network Analyser) and the circuit being tested, ensuring that the measurement does not interfere with the system’s stability.

Why Choose a Wideband Injection Transformer?

Galvanic Isolation: It prevents ground loops and protects sensitive signal generators from the high voltages often present in power supply circuits.
Flat Frequency Response: These transformers are designed to be "transparent" across a massive range (e.g., 10Hz to 10MHz or more), ensuring the injected signal remains accurate at all frequencies.
Low Insertion Loss: They are engineered to have minimal impact on the circuit’s own characteristics, allowing for a true measurement of the "Loop Gain" and "Phase Margin."
High Input Impedance: They present a minimal load to the signal source, which is critical when performing precise stability analysis on sensitive analog feedback paths.

Core Applications

Power Supply Stability Analysis: The primary tool for measuring the Bode plot of a DC-DC converter or AC-DC power supply to ensure it won't oscillate under different load conditions.
Control Loop Characterisation: Used in motor drives and robotics to measure the transfer function of feedback loops, helping engineers tune PID controllers for maximum performance.
PSRR Testing: Measuring the "Power Supply Rejection Ratio" by injecting a ripple onto the input rail to see how much of that noise reaches the output of a linear regulator or LDO.
Component Impedance Measurement: In-circuit testing of capacitors and inductors at high frequencies to see how they behave under real-world operating voltages.
