Sound Level Meters / Calibrators

A sound level meter (SLM) is a handheld or stationary instrument designed to measure sound pressure levels in a standardised way. It combines a microphone, preamplifier, signal processing electronics, and a display. SLMs often have different “weightings” (like A, C, or Z-weighting) to mimic how the human ear perceives sound at different frequencies and levels.

Application:

  • Occupational Health & Safety: Used to monitor noise exposure in the workplace to protect workers’ hearing and comply with safety regulations.
  • Noise Pollution Assessment: Essential for quantifying noise from industrial, commercial, and residential sources to mitigate community complaints and enforce regulations.
  • Product Validation: Used in quality control to ensure products like vacuum cleaners or air conditioners don’t exceed a specified noise limit.
