Description
Siglent SDG830 Function Generator
The SDG830 is a 1CH, 30MHz Function Generator with a maximum sampling rate of 125MSa/s. The SDG800 series function/arbitrary waveform generator family outputs waveform functions up to up to 5 MHz (pulse), 10 MHz (square), 30 MHz (sine) and has a sampling rate of 125 MSa/s. They are powered with SIGLENT’s EasyPulse technology which produces low jitter, fast rising/falling edges without being affected by frequency, even at low duty cycle settings, allowing the user a wide range of pulse widths and transition times. This results in a much more versatile generator than other similar DDS designs.
Features:
- Innovative EasyPulse technology can output pulses with low jitter and quick rising/falling edges
- Standard interfaces: USB Device, USB Host, supports U-Disk storage
- 10 Nonvolatile storage spaces for user’s arbitrary waveforms
- Can be seamlessly connected to SIGLENT Digital Storage Oscilloscope
- Includes EasyWave, the powerful arbitrary waveform editing software
- Advanced DDS technology, 125 MSa/s sampling rate, 14-bit vertical resolution
- Single channel output, 5 standard waveforms, 46 built-in arbitrary waveforms (including DC)
- Complete modulation functions: AM, DSB-AM, FM, PM, FSK, ASK, PWM, Linear/Logarithmic sweep, and burst

By feeding the trigger output of my SDS 1202X-E oscilloscope into the trigger input of this generator, to trigger sweeps, I’ve been able to measure the frequency response of circuits from 0 to 30MHz, amongst many other things… not bad for about £500 total spend!

The device can offer a lot for the price. The main functions are easy to use. I didn’t try the software and the imported functions. The signal is steady over a long period (several hours) and within +/- 1mv as specified. The SYNC/TRIGGER output/input facility is not explained in the SDG830 manual but you can find the info on different Siglent manuals. The calibration certificate was not in the box. Going to ask for one.

The SDG830 is a truly decent waveform generator in this price bracket. You won’t find anything better without spending more $$$
Telonic were fast and efficient, as well as giving a really decent price. Thanks! I’ll be back for more!
